Four accident victims suffer injuries in multi-vehicle crash

Posted on in Car Accidents

When a serious car accident involving multiple vehicles occurs, chances are most people would expect that the accident victims were severely injured. Oftentimes the difference in the results can depend on whether or not the drivers and passengers involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts. That seems to have been the case in a recent car crash in Santa Clara County.

According to the reports, three vehicles were involved in an accident that occurred on Highway 101 on December 12. One woman, a 45-year-old San Jose resident, was driving a Nissan when a Lexus driven by a 23-year-old woman hit her. The 45-year-old woman reportedly was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision, and as a result she was ejected from her vehicle. Although she was rushed to a medical center for treatment, she ultimately died from her injuries. The passenger in her car, a 52-year-old woman, also was not wearing a seatbelt, but she was more fortunate, suffering what was described as "moderate" injuries.

To make matters worse, after the initial collision involving the Nissan and Lexus one of the cars hit a third vehicle, a Honda driven by a 27-year-old woman. The driver of the Honda was wearing her seatbelt and suffered only minor injuries.

There are always dozens of factors to consider in trying to determine why a car crash happened and what led to the injuries the parties involved suffered. The investigation into the causes of this crash is still underway, although the initial statements from the California Highway Patrol seem to rule out alcohol or drug use as a contributing factor in this case. Who was at fault and who were the victims is as yet undetermined.
